Seconds Sale! February 10, 2016 22:01

Time for the first seconds sale of 2016! In the past, I've held my seconds sales on an event off of my Facebook page, Facebook however has made some policy changes that will make that impossible going forward. That's ok- we'll just do it here! I've already started moving items into my super secret seconds sales section, which will not be available for viewing until the set time mentioned. I will create a shortcut on my front page and will post a link to all of my social media sites the day of the event. Listings will not appear until 6 pm, EST on the day of the event. All the listings will show up at the same time once the event is live. Please continue reading for more of the who, what, when, and why's...

Second Sale Items will be available for purchase Friday, February 12th 2016 at 6 pm, EST. Listings will remain for 24 hours or until they are sold out, which ever comes first.

A seconds sale is a flash event that takes place right here on this page. All the yarn and fiber  I will be selling are seconds and are "flawed" in some way. Flaws include inconsistent dye lots, weird color blips, leftover skeins from ooak color ways and mysterious red dots.

Prices are wholesale, so 50% off my retail prices, except on handspun yarn, but that will be at a deep discount. Standard shipping rates apply, International orders are welcome.  As always, I accept visa, mastercard, discover, AMEX, and PayPal. Maine state taxes will also be applied when applicable.

Each listing in the Second Sale Section will have a quantity listed, take as few or as many as you like. Please remember though, items are not yours until they are paid for. If someone has completed the purchase for something in your cart before you are able to pay, than you will not be able to complete the sale. You must move quickly! I recommend setting up an account on my site before the event to speed up check out time. An account is not mandatory, but it will allow you to save your information for speedier check out. My site is both verified and protected.

These are usually very fast moving events so be prepared for that. Remember, it's all in good fun and they happen every few months so if you don't get anything, just try again next time! Trust me, I mess up all the time so there are plenty of seconds!

All sales are final, there are no exchanges, returns or refunds on Seconds Sale items.

Cha Cha Cha Changes... June 28, 2015 11:32

I'm making some changes around here. It's time to start reaching those long term goals I've dreamed about for a long time. It's time to slow down in some areas, and speed up in others. It's time for me to grow, and this site to grow, and most importantly, to make until my hearts content.

Change is good, right?

The first thing to change will be Friday updates. I've been very inconsistent lately and...

Happy Sunday May 31, 2015 10:15

I find myself all alone on this rainy Sunday morning. A rare treat! The baby is sleeping and the girls are off adventuring with their dad.

I am fighting the urge to turn on the radio or a podcast, since I rarely get total silence these days.

I've decided to spend this peaceful moment grinding out some polwarth lux batts on my tired Fancy Kitty carder.

I have a love hate relationship with my...

3rd Annual Destash Auction April 06, 2015 12:45 1 Comment

It’s that time of year again- Destash Auction time!

For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, every year on the second weekend in April I hold an event on my Facebook Fan Page where I offer up seconds, experiments, and overflow yarns and fibers. This event is an auction that takes place over the course of a weekend where people bid in increments of $1 in the comments of each listing.

It's a suuuuuuuper fun event that I look forward to doing every year! There is nothing I love more than a good spring cleaning to freshen up my creative mind!

Let’s go over the details of the auction so everyone is clear how this will work. Please read through all of this post so that there are no surprises. Questions are welcome in the comment section here or on the auction event page.

The OnTheRound Destash Auction is a chance for me to find new homes for all of the yarn and fiber I have acquired over the year. I do not sell items from my personal stash or items from other sellers.

The inventory that I will be auctioning off is left over skeins from big lots, seconds, or bits of yarn and fiber that have piled up over the year.

The auction will take place on my Facebook Fan Page,OnTheRoundFiberArt, please like my page if you haven’t already so that I can link you in comments to respond to your questions or alert you if you have won the auction. Last year I had a few people join the auction who didn’t like my page and contacting them was a bit of a bear.

The auction will begin this Friday, April 10th at 4 pm EST.

When I say begin, that means I will start posting the items up for auction. You are welcome to start bidding as soon as the items are posted. Please note though, it will take me at least a couple of hours to get everything listed, so I suggest grabbing a glass of wine and hit that refresh button!

The auction will end on Sunday, April 12th at 6 pm EST.

All bidding MUST STOP at 6 pm, EST! Please DO NOT bid after 6 pm, EST - it is not fair and it also confuses the heck out of things! I will make an announcement that the bidding is over and then I will go through and start notifying the winners. You will be notified and have a paypal invoice sent by the end of Sunday night.

Last year I had some complaints about the auctions closing time from international friends, but it’s just the best time for me to be able to close the auction and get back to the winners all in the same night. Don’t give up on an item, place your final bids when you can and hope for the best!

{Item Listings}

The auction items will be listed as a picture with the details of the listing attached to each image. You will place your bids/questions/comments in the comments section of each individual picture.

Make sure you read the details of the listing so you are clear on what you are bidding on.

If you have any questions, please go ahead and leave a comment. I will be around ALL weekend and will respond as quickly as I can.

Each listing will have an item number with it, something like this, NO.0001. That number will be what I use to keep track of all the items when I’m billing and shipping.

All bids start at $1 and should be placed in USD. All bids should be increments of at least $1- more than $1 is fine, but nothing lower please.

Bids should be written in the comment section of each item picture. You are welcome to bid as much or as little as you like. If you do commit to a bid, you have an obligation to finish the sale should you win so please be available for me to contact you on Sunday night or Monday, depending on your time zone.

I'm going to do shipping a little bit differently this year. I will have the US shipping cost of each item with the listing instead of doing a flat rate like I've done in past years. I have a lot more yarn lots this year so I think that is what will make the most sense. As always, If for some reason that ends up being too much money per item you will be charged the correct amount when you receive your PayPal invoice.

I am happy to ship international orders, you have to just let me know where your package is going to when you Private Message (PM) me your PayPal information.

If you are local, please let me know that you would like to arrange pick up/drop off when you Private Message (PM) me your Paypal information.

Once the auction has ended (Sunday night, at 6 pm EST) I will do a final comment on each listing notifying the winner. I will flag your name in the comment so that you will get a Facebook notification. OR if you are sure that you have won items, you are welcome to Private Message (PM) me on the ontheround Facebook page with your PayPal email address and any shipping information (see above).

If I do not hear from you in 24 hours (by 6 pm EST on Monday, April 13th, ) I will assume you have forfeited the item and it will go to the next highest bidder.

Once I have your PayPal email information I will send you a detailed invoice. Once you have paid your invoice, I will ship your order.

Local people who are picking up their order are welcome to pay with cash or check.

And there you have it! Like I said before, this was a super fun event last year and I look forward to *spending the weekend* with all of you!

Again, if you have any questions at all, please leave a comment in this post or in the Facebook Auction Event page.

See you on Friday!

Sunday Spinning March 29, 2015 16:17 1 Comment

On Sunday mornings I like to get up while the kiddos are still asleep and jump right on my spinning wheel with my cuppa. The house is usually relatively clean with all the chores being done on Saturday and my hubby is home to help with the kids, so it's a great day to spend some uninterrupted time at the wheel.

This Sunday I am spinning some super bulky, thick and thin yarn using superwash merino/silk/nylon/sparkle (63/20/10/2) roving.

Personally, I like to spin my thick and thin yarn from un dyed fibers since it drafts out easier, which give me a more consistent yarn. I also like to spin my thick and thin yarn using roving verses commercial top. Roving is thinner and the fibers are less compact than in top again, making it easier to draft out consistently.

Each skein is 4 oz and approximately 80-100 yards. Once I have spun four skeins, or a pound of this yarn, I will soak it in warm water with vinegar. Then I plan on dyeing the yarn in Peacock inspired greens and blues.

These skeins will be available in this weeks shop update, this Friday at 4 pm, EST.

What would you knit with a skein of thick and thin yarn?

Welcome! March 20, 2015 15:20 2 Comments

Oh my goodness- welcome to my NEW space! I am so excited that this moment is FINALLY here! It's been my plan to sell my yarn and fibers on my own website since I started this gig so there is a lot of build up here for me.

Just a few things about the shop...

First, for the time being I will not be listing new items to my Etsy Shop. It will be on vacation mode for the time being so that I can still be found and contacted- I will still be checking my convo's. Otherwise you can reach me by email at

Updates will happen as they have been- at 4 pm, EST- they will just be here! You can filter all the new items listed by using the New Yarn & Fiber button at the bottom left of my page, that will change with every update.

Any coupon codes that you had on hand, including the FBFAN free shipping code will still work on this site, just enter the code at checkout.

If you have a gift certificate or have give a gift certificate you are welcome to use it here. Just shoot me an email and I will give you a new code to use at check out.

As for shopping on this site- as you can see there are several ways of filtering all the items, you can Shop All, shop by type- Yarn or Spinning Supplies. You can also use the drop downs to search by specific yarn weight or fiber prep type. And lastly, you can shop by Fiber content, just use the drop down menu to see each breed. You'll notice there are some fibers that are not yet available, but those will be coming soon over the next couple of months.

Of course this space is a work in progress, new yarns, different fibers, and new features will be popping up- so check back often! Also, I would love to hear your feedback or if you see any problems that I may have overlooked.

I would like to give a super big thank you to my friend Amanda at Long Winter Farm who pushed me to get this done and offered up tons of help and support!

And THANK YOU so much to all of you friends for being such wonderful supporters of my little business!

<3 Rachel

Before Knitting Was Cool April 15, 2014 12:17

This weekend on my Facebook Fan page I posted this meme. I love posts like this, they always spark great conversation. There was a reoccurring theme in the conversation,  "is knitting considered cool?"

I've been thinking about that question ever since...

Is knitting considered cool? From where I'm sitting that is a great big hell yes! If knitting wasn't considered cool, I would not be typing these...

What are you up to today?

The Making of a Handspun Sweater Lot November 30, 2013 21:25

A few weeks ago, Rohn Strong posted this image to his Facebook page. He thought this would make a great yarn colorway, and frankly I had to agree. Everything about this picture speaks to me, I knew it would be perfect for my first handspun yarn sweater lot.

I've been working through a bump of corriedale wool and new that I could get the colors to translate perfectly onto the wool. I chose to do...

Dye Day! November 12, 2013 12:46

I've been meaning to do a post about Dyeing for a while now....but the truth is I haven't been dyeing much these days! I had a pretty steep mountain of fiber that needed to be worked through before I could add more.

Yesterday however, I hit the dye pots because I'm working on something a little different for the months ahead and I needed some fresh color.

So, once I got the people out the door or...

Good morning! It feels like I was waiting for Friday all week, and now that I'm here, I don't quite know what to do with myself.... I have so many thoughts and ideas and projects going on I keep finding myself spinning in circles!

Usually when this happens (I must admit it happens frequently) it's best to just sit down and see what computer work needs to be done. So here I am.

Earlier this week I...
