This week we visited Crescent Beach, just down the road from my house. It's one of our favorite spots to go in the summer, with lots of space to play, rocks to climb, tide pools to explore, and waves to surf. This time of year, when you first walk onto the beach you are greeted by the sweet smell of Rosa Rugosa, or beach roses. Giant bushes line the walk way with their beautiful bright flower buds inviting you down to the rocky beach. It takes my breath away every time. I knew they would be the perfect inspiration for this months Color of the Month!
For this colorway I mixed some rose pink, cherry, and orchid to get that beautiful magenta and poured the dye over the white yarn to get a range of tones just like you see on the petals. I topped it off with some orchid speckles on both sides to keep the pink on the cooler side. Then I finished the yarn with some lemon yellow and aqua green speckles to accent the pollen center and green leaves.
This colorway feels like a true collaboration between myself and mother nature. I hope you love it as much as I do!
I would recommend pairing this colorway with Fireworks, Divine Feminine, Eclipse, Always A Bridesmaid, Hemlock, Lemongrass, Conch, Beauchamp, Sugar Maple, Sugar Cookie, Lincoln Street, or the last two colors of the month Miss Rumphius or Daffodil!
This yarn is excellent for baby knits and garments worn next to the skin. This base is also recommended to people who have sensitive skin.
While this is a fingering weight yarn, this yarn is not ideal for socks.
Colorway: Rosa Rugosa
Hand dyed 19.5 micron Superwash Merino Wool
3.5 oz/ 430 Yards
Single / Fingering Weight
Recommended Needle Size: 2
This yarn is certified cruelty free.
Superwash yarn is machine washable in a gentle cycle with like colors, lay flat to dry. I've had a pair sneak into the dryer before and that won't ruin it, but whatever you make will last much longer if you air dry.
This fiber was handdyed by ontheround using professional quality acid dyes. I dye my yarn in small batches and no skein will be 100% the same- that's what makes working with hand dyed yarn so fun!
I do my very best to accurately photograph my yarns but please note that not all monitors are the same. My yarn is made in my smoke-free, pet free studio in Rockland Maine.
