Introducing June’s Color of the Month The Deep Dark Wood...

For this month colorway I pulled inspiration from my Woodland Mini Skein Set collection which includes 7 colorways including, Eclipse, Robin's Egg, Patina, Diadem, Caribou, Pine Cone, and Hemlock. Last week I did a play deep dive with a set on Plush Single which inspired me to layer pops of color from each of those seven skeins, into one colorway!

I started out with the Caribou colorway for the base, then I poured over Robin's Egg, Hemlock, and finished it with Taupe- which is the main color in Pine Cone. I finished off the colorway with speckled from Patina, and Diadem.

The resulting yarn is deep and dark  and moody- like you know I love. There are so many layers of color tucked into one skein. I almost called this colorway, Woodland, like the mini skein set that inspired it, but I couldn't stop thinking about the deep dark wood story book by Algy Craig Hall that starts out, "this is the deep dark wood...there are lots of fierce and beastly creatures in the deep dark wood". Kind of random, but also I love a good obscure children's book reference.

The Deep Dark Wood would be great paired with a Woodland Mini Skein Set naturally, also Hemlock, Robin's Egg, Beauchamp, Wanderer, Rust, Chocolate, Treeline, or Blueberry. I also think it would be excellent with the past two months colorways, Sprout and Pop.

Plush singles feature extra fine 19.5 micron superwash Merino wool. This yarn base is light weight, incredibly soft and has a beautiful silky sheen. Plush is the perfect yarn for a colorful shawl, light weight hat, or your favorite colorwork design.

This yarn is excellent for baby knits and garments worn next to the skin. This base is also recommended to people who have sensitive skin.

While this is a fingering weight yarn, this yarn is not ideal for socks.

This yarn is certified cruelty free.

Superwash yarn is machine washable in a gentle cycle with like colors, lay flat to dry. I've had a pair sneak into the dryer before and that won't ruin it, but whatever you make will last much longer if you air dry.

This fiber was hand dyed by ontheround using professional quality acid dyes. I dye my yarn in small batches and no skein will be 100% the same- that's what makes working with hand dyed yarn so fun!

I do my very best to accurately photograph my yarns but please note that not all monitors are the same. My yarn is made in my smoke-free, pet free studio in Rockland Maine.

Care Instructions

The best thing to do is hand wash you garment (and any other wool garments) in the sink using warm water (not at all hot) and a small amount of gentle soap, we recommend Long Winter Soap Co. Sweater Soap, available in the Mercantile Section on this site.

Gently spot clean stains and extra grimy spots with your hands being careful not to wring or pull, as that will stretch your garment. Rinse clean using cold water, this will get all the soap out.

Now take your garment and place it in your washer machine and spin out the extra water. If you don't have a washer at home lay your garment out on a couple of towels and roll it up to get out the extra water.

Finally, block your garment into its original shape and allow to air dry flat on a clean towel. In the sun or by a wood stove will speed up the process.

Remember to flip it over so the backside dries as well.

This process will keep your knits looking good and lasting for a long time!

NOTE: This is the same process I use for cleaning my superwash yarn. Although it is technically machine washable, I find that my knits last much longer when they are handled with the most care.
