Yarn Base

Detour is the  Color of the Month for March 2024!

This months limited edition yarn is deep variegated colorway that is first dyed with bright pinks and oranges.   Originally I intended to do a spin off of my Vintage Pink colorway on my Cottage yarn bases, but unhappy with the results I decided to overdye the bright colors with a warm purple to create a dense and complex colorway more fitting of my mood, hence the name- Detour.

Detour starts with a heavy hand of champagne,  and then I pour over red grape, coral, and orange. Once these colors are set, I add a layer of bright purple all over. I’m not sure why the dye is named bright purple, as it’s more of a warm earthy purple.

I would recommend pairing this months colorway with Pressed Petal,  Hibernation, Elusive Purple Pumpkin, Shadow, Always  Bridesmaid, Gourd, Harvest, Latte, Himalayan Salt, or February’s Color of the Month, Cardamom.

Detour is available throughout the month of March on Nimble Sock.  Plush Single, Plush DK,  and Plush Bulky.

Please use the drop down menu to choose the base that you would like to order.

All of my yarn bases are certified cruelty free.

Superwash yarn is technically machine washable in a gentle cycle with like colors, I do however recommend hand washing your knits made with superwash yarn as the washer will tug and pull at your knits causing them to lose their shape or worse rip. I was my knits in the sink using luke warm water and Long Winter Farm Sweater Soap. This soap has lanolin in it which protects the natural fibers. I spot wash any stains and allow my sweater to soak for approximately 30 minutes. Rinse your sweater with cool water if necessary and them gently wring out any extra water, I use my top load washer spin cycle this this, but you can use a towel as well.  After the excess water is removed, lay your garment  flat to air dry.

This fiber was handdyed by ontheround using professional quality acid dyes. I dye my yarn in small batches and no skein will be 100% the same- that's what makes working with hand dyed yarn so fun!

I do my very best to accurately photograph my yarns but please note that not all monitors are the same. My yarn is made in my smoke-free, pet free studio in Rockland Maine.

Care Instructions

The best thing to do is hand wash you garment (and any other wool garments) in the sink using warm water (not at all hot) and a small amount of gentle soap, we recommend Long Winter Soap Co. Sweater Soap, available in the Mercantile Section on this site.

Gently spot clean stains and extra grimy spots with your hands being careful not to wring or pull, as that will stretch your garment. Rinse clean using cold water, this will get all the soap out.

Now take your garment and place it in your washer machine and spin out the extra water. If you don't have a washer at home lay your garment out on a couple of towels and roll it up to get out the extra water.

Finally, block your garment into its original shape and allow to air dry flat on a clean towel. In the sun or by a wood stove will speed up the process.

Remember to flip it over so the backside dries as well.

This process will keep your knits looking good and lasting for a long time!

NOTE: This is the same process I use for cleaning my superwash yarn. Although it is technically machine washable, I find that my knits last much longer when they are handled with the most care.
