Good Monday to you my friend! I am finally sitting down to write this newsletter that has been on my to do list since Wednesday! I have so many things going on at the moment that I am finding it hard to slow down for a minute and actually finish a task… but today I had a moment of clarity and reminded myself that I am acting out of urgency that just isn’t real. I’ve made myself a cup of coffee and I’m going to slow down for a minute and update you on what’s going on.
First order of business, shop hours for this week. My community has suffered a enormous tragedy this week and while I won’t get into the details of that, I will say school has been canceled for Monday and Tuesday, for which I am grateful for the extra for for my kiddos but that does make an already cramped week even tighter. So for this week I will be open Friday from 10-3 and Saturday from 12-4.
Saturday is Shop Small Saturday and my first being a new shop owner! Originally I had so many plans and ideas but this month has been crazy and honestly, I’m just going to relish in being here and invite you to come by and shop, get some inspiration or even sit at the new shop table with your project for a spell.
Inventory update! I worked my butt off and dyed a ton of Plush DK for the ready to ship section! I got just about every colorway covered so there is lots to chose from. I am loving having a ready to ship section on the website and will continue throughout the year. I am still doing work on the dyed to order section so it does remain closed for the time being but I have plenty of yarn in all bases so if there is something you need, feel free to reach out. Ultimately I’d like to go through every base and get the ready to ship section really loaded up before opening dyed to order again. I’ve got my eye on Bulky next, but also Worsted is calling my name. Of course all of these plans are subject to change but that’s the plan for the moment.
I do have a special Holiday colorway that I’ll be releasing Friday. I’ll be sharing more details about it, inspiration, and behind the scenes making on a newsletter Friday morning. This colorway will also be available in shop for Friday and Saturday as well. I do have a set amount dyed up for the moment, but more sock yarn is due to arrive very soon so there is plenty to go around.
It’s important for me to emphasize the non urgency culture here…while I like to release fun seasonal things, I really don’t want it to be a hurry up and buy before it’s gone situation. That’s never been my business model. Of course occasionally there really is only so much of something available, but for the most part I try and avoid those situations when I can. This is slow craft and I like your shopping experience at ontheround to reflect that in giving you time to make thoughtful decisions and realizing that handmade takes time. That being said, of course if you are experiencing sometime of urgency for whatever reason, please reach out so I can accommodate you in the best way I can.
In other news, I am so happily plugging away on my Endless Chances Cowl using November’s Color of the Month, Strega Nona! This has been my primary knitting project all weekend and I am enjoying the colorway and the project so much! I am really feeling stitch work lately, I’m usually a plain old stockinette girl but I dare say I’m ready to take on a sweater with some texture! Strega Nona is available throughout the month on Plush Dk, Plush Single, and Nimble Sock.
And then for my final bit of news before I log off and take these kids out for a walk to the ocean, new colorways! Last week I teased that I had one new colorway coming, and in true Rachel form instead of getting it listed when I said I would, instead I added two more colorways! What am I to do, when inspiration strikes I have to ride it…. I’ll be working on swatches on these colorways and will have more information about them coming along. I will have these available in December for sure, so for now you’ve been teased.
